Lenten Lecture Series: Finding Hope in the Broken Heart of God

Presented by the Vocation Office, all members and Companions are invited to join in this lecture series. The suffering of the world breaks God’s heart. But God so loves the world that God sends Jesus to walk with us through the pain and losses of our lives to find hope in the glory of the resurrection. The broken heart of God is revealed in the cross of Jesus, which is etched in ashes upon our foreheads  as the season of Lent begins to remind us we never walk alone.

The theme, Faith in Action, was timely for this election year. During the assembly, the province approved a Corporate Stance for Comprehensive Reform of the Immigration System. Key points of the stance include a call for legislation that will:

  • Provide a timely path to legal status for undocumented persons in the country
  • Preserve family unity as a cornerstone for our national immigration system
  • Provide for just and legal paths for immigrant laborers to come and work in
    the U.S.
  • Restore due process protections to our immigration enforcement policies
  • Address the root causes of migration within sending countries and explore long-term solutions

The statement also empowered the province’s Justice and Peace Committee to develop a plan for the province to act in accordance with the beliefs expressed in the stance.
Prior to the province’s confirmation of the corporate stance, Sr. Simone led attendees in deliberations and dialogue of how to apply faith, spirituality, and charism to issues in society today that cry out for justice, equality, and compassion, especially immigration reform. Provincial Director Fr. Joe Nassal, c.pp.s. said, “Sr. Simone is a prophetic voice for justice in the world and we are honored by her presence among us.”
During the assembly, Fathers Joe Miller, Alan Hartway and Jim Urbanic were honored for their jubilee anniversaries as Missionaries of the Precious Blood. Also honored for jubilee aniversaries, but unable to attend were Fathers Jack McClure and Jim Sloan. Brother Daryl Charron, C.PP.S. was blessed by the congregation at the Wednesday evening Mass, as he assumes duties with the Precious Blood Mission in Saigon, Vietnam.[/fusion_text][fusion_title size=”3″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” class=”” id=””]Corporate Stance for Comprehensive Reform of the Immigration System[/fusion_title][fusion_text]As Missionaries and Companions of the Precious Blood – Kansas City Province, we are compelled by our
charisms of reconciliation, hospitality and ministry of the Word for the renewal of the Church. We are
motivated by the Gospel message (“For I was a stranger and you welcomed me,” Mt. 25:35) and inspired by our founder, St. Gaspar (“Please, I urge you not to abandon the poor who are the image of Jesus Christ”). We remember that we are a nation of immigrants. In light of these roots and our commitment to social justice, we affirm the rights of all immigrants to be treated with dignity and respect. We call on all government leaders to work together to establish compassionate and comprehensive immigration reform legislation. This legislation should:
• Provide a timely path to legal status for undocumented persons in the country
• Preserve family unity as a cornerstone for our national immigration system
• Provide for just and legal paths for immigrant laborers to come and work in the U.S.
• Restore due process protections to our immigration enforcement policies
• Address the root causes of migration within sending countries and explore long-term solutions
We empower the Justice and Peace Committee to develop an action plan for the congregation to implement the core beliefs expressed in our stance.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_slider hover_type=”none” width=”100%” height=”100%” class=”” id=””][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/jubliarians.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Daryl.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Juan.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Gabby.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/daryl-blessing.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/lac-blessing-daryl.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/sr-simone.gif[/fusion_slide][fusion_slide type=”image” link=”” linktarget=”_self” lightbox=”yes”]https://preciousbloodkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/sr-simone-2.gif[/fusion_slide][/fusion_slider][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

Holy Week Retreat with Fr. Joe Nassal, C.PP.S.

At the Crossroads: Reflections at the Intersection of Death and Life

March 20-27, 2016, 7 p.m.

Cost options vary depending upon length of time attending (A $25 deposit will reserve your place) See options in brochure.  Make Checks Payable to Sisters of Charity
Holy Week brings us to the intersection of death and life. As historian Eamon Duffy writes, “The cross is not some arbitrary demand of God imposed on a hapless victim, but a marker where human beings find themselves at the intersection of justice and mercy, time and eternity, death and life.” During these holy days we will explore these themes along with belonging and betrayal, truth and deceit, hospitality and humility, as we stand at the crossroads of our lives and ask, “Which way do we go?”

Fr. Joe NassalPresenter: Joseph Nassal, C.PP.S.
Fr. Joe Nassal, C.PP.S. is provincial director of the Kansas City Province of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. Author of several books including The Conspiracy of Compassion, Rest Stops for the Soul, Premeditated Mercy, Moments of Truth, and Stations of the Crib, he has been engaged in retreat, renewal and reconciliation ministry since 1988. Ordained in 1982, Fr. Joe has also served in parish, justice and peace ministry and in formation, vocation, and leadership for his congregation.
