Precious Blood Vocations

Are you called to a Precious Blood Life?

Motivated by our Precious Blood spirituality, we seek to be with people who are hurting and to build bridges through Christ’s love, as we work to bring renewal to the Church and reconciliation to the world.

Vocations

Are you called to a
Precious Blood Life?

Precious Blood priests and brothers reach out to the suffering through parish ministry, education, preaching, social work, retreats, and other ministries. We walk with and serve people who have been marginalized because of their income level, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, illness, or immigration status. Precious Blood members walk with Jesus by sharing the joys and sufferings of the people with whom we work.

St. Gaspar del Bufalo founded the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in Giano, Italy, on August 15, 1815. In the 10th century abbey of San Felice, our founder initiated a society of apostolic life for the purpose of preaching missions and retreats, renewing the Church, and proclaiming the salvation that comes through the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ.

Learn more about our history

My vocation is a great gift. I had a career that I loved, but God called me to something else. As I explored the possibilities, I found the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. The formation wasn’t about fitting everyone into one mold. Our spirituality comes from knowing that the divine blood is within each one of us.

– Fr. Matt Link, C.PP.S.

Our Three Pillars

Mission

As missionaries, we are ministers of God’s prophetic Word through our lifestyle and our preaching.

Community

In the bond of charity, we are called to live a simple lifestyle in a community that reflects hospitality, reconciliation, and common prayer.

Spirituality

Jesus shed His blood to bring reconciliation, love, and hope to the world. Missionaries of the Precious Blood strive to spread this reconciling love to everyone, especially the lost, the hopeless, the poor, victims of violence—anyone who lives on the margins of society.

Stages of Formation

Inquiry

The inquirer remains in his present living situation while maintaining contact with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. A Precious Blood member journeys with the inquirer through this period which lasts no longer than two years. During this time the inquirer makes no formal commitment to the Community.

Initial Formation

At this stage an individual is invited to enter as a candidate of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. This part of the formation process will normally happen at the Formation House in Chicago. This stage invites people to growth in human and religious development, to be involved in apostolic settings, and to become acquainted with the history and spirituality of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.

Advanced Formation

In Advanced Formation there is a defined period prior to incorporation into the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. During this time there is an immersion into the theology and spirituality of the Precious Blood, and into the missionary charism and life of St. Gaspar. Experience of community life is continued with emphasis on our common life and on the spirituality of the “bond of charity.” This period lasts about one year, after which the candidate begins theology studies at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, which prepares him for incorporation into the Community and for professional and vocational training necessary for his apostolate in the Community. During this time a member also discerns his entrance into the mission of the Community as either a priest or brother.
