Dear Friends,
On this 198th Anniversary of the Founding of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, we celebrate the vision of St. Gaspar del Bufalo who was inspired by the Spirit to begin a Society of Apostolic Life dedicated to the renewal of the church and the reconciliation of the world. As the Vision Statement from the XX General Assembly that will guide our efforts for the next six years proclaims, “Rooted in the Spirituality of the Precious Blood and the Ministry of the Word, our mission is to be a prophetic witness for the renewal of the Church and the transformation of the world. As a courageous community of missionary disciples, the Cry of the Blood calls us to the edges of society to be ambassadors of Christ for reconciliation and hope as we minister with the people of God.”
On this anniversary of our founding and the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we call upon the charism of Gaspar and the intercession of Mary to be courageous and compassionate missionary disciples of the Blood of Christ. We find this courage, in the words of our founder, when “we are united in prayer in the heart of Christ, our sweet dwelling place…where we can be with each other often, praying for one another.”
We remember especially today the staff and community at Precious Blood Center who are hosting an Open House on this Founding Day; and our Companions in California who will be gathering for an afternoon of prayer and reflection this Sunday at St. Barnabas Church in Alameda. The day will conclude with Eucharist and the celebration of Covenants.
May we continue to pray for one another in the heart of Christ!
With peace,

Joe Nassal, C.PP.S.
