According to Gene Karpinski, President of League of Conservation Voters, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has taken his war against the EPA to a new level. McConnell recently urged our nation’s governors to reject the EPA’s carbon pollution limits, sending every governor a letter telling them to ignore the EPA’s carbon pollution limits on coal-fired power plants, our country’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. His goal is to ensure the EPA’s Clean Power Plan fails and is making the States his accomplices. His efforts are leading up to the Paris climate change talks coming in December, hoping to weaken President Obama’s ability to negotiate a global climate change treaty by encouraging enough States reject the Clean Power Plan. Peabody Energy, a major Coal corporation, has been the fourth largest contributor to Senator McConnell over the course of his career. Last year, the Koch brothers pumped more than $700 million into supporting McConnell and his allies in polluting our environment.
Please pray that the EPA can continue to protect our environment from such devastation by enforcing the Clean Power Plan. I encourage you all to do your part in caring for our planet. Please consider learning more about how to care for the Earth by coming to Centerville, Iowa on April 11th for the presentation: “Ecology: What’s Faith Got To Do With It?” by Jim Ennis, Executive Director of Catholic Rural Life.
