Fr. Tom Welk received his BA in philosophy and MA in theological studies from the University of Dayton; and his DMin in pastoral counseling with emphasis on medical ethics from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
After ordination he taught for one year at Precious Blood Seminary in Liberty, Missouri. After that he served for 13 years at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas as chaplain and instructor. In the early 1980s he was involved in starting a hospice program in south central Kansas. He left Newman University in 1983 to assume the position of Director of Professional Education and Pastoral Care with Hospice of Wichita, now known as Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. He also serves as chaplain for the ASC Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Fr. Tom has been recognized with several awards for his work in end-of-life care and medical ethics.
