Father Joe Nassal is provincial director of the Kansas City Province. He has been engaged in retreat, renewal and reconciliation ministry since 1988, including director of Shantivanam, the House of Prayer for the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas (1995-1998). In 2002, he was part of the team that established the Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation on the south side of Chicago. Ordained in 1982, Fr. Joe has also served Precious Blood parishes in Centerville, Iowa, St. Joseph and Sedalia, Missouri. He was coordinator of justice and peace for the Diocese of Davenport, Iowa (1984-85) and the Gerber Institute Visiting Professor at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas (1999-2000). Fr. Joe has served on the provincial council/leadership team for the province for more than twenty years (1987-99; 2007-present). He holds a BA in English/Journalism from Rockhurst College (1977), a Masters in Divinity from Catholic Theological Union (1982), a Certificate in Religious Formation from St. Louis University (1988), and a Certificate in Mediation Training from Northwestern University in Chicago (2002). He is the founding editor of The New Wine Press and The Wine Cellar and has published articles, poems, and prayers in numerous publications including National Catholic Reporter, Praying, and Review for Religious. He is the author of eight books including The Conspiracy of Compassion, Rest Stops for the Soul, Premeditated Mercy, Moments of Truth, and Stations of the Crib.
