Faithwalkers:Stations of the Cross is a musical ritualization of Fr. Joseph Nassal’s Faith Walkers:Passages of Suffering and Hope by Fr. Keith Branson. Fr. Nassal says in the introduction: When we dig down into the soul we discover the plan of salvation: “God chose to walk with us in the person of Jesus. The way of the cross is a sojourn of the soul that makes us faith walkers, not sightseers: we walk by faith, not by sight.” The music was written to help those present enter into that journey of soul more deeply. The presentation is in the form of a prayer service, includes visual media and invites all present into a journey of the soul.
This adaptation was first presented in 2004 at St. Therese in Parkville, MO and St. James in Liberty, MO. This presentation features the Avila University Singers under the direction of Dr. Amity Bryson, Chair of the Music Department at Avila University. The University Singers is the touring choral ensemble of Avila University. The auditioned ensemble performs challenging, eclectic literature both on and off campus, and is open to all students. They have toured throughout the Midwest and abroad, including St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City and St. Mark’s Cathedral in Venice.
This presentation will be given twice: on Friday, March 6 at 7:00PM at the Orscheln Chapel on the campus of Avila University, and on Sunday, March 8 at 7:30PM at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty, MO. Both of these events are free and open to the public.
